I was blessed to know one of the bravest women in the world.To go through all that she did and to still have the strength to smile. God took Grams away on Friday to ease her pain. Now I think about all the great memories we had with her. ♥ Grams, you were absolutely amazing!! May you fly with the angels and the flowers bloom in your name. You will forever be in our hearts. ♥.
Myrtle Marjorie Brown-Kelley passed away Friday Sept. 9, 2011, peacefully in her sleep, in Tucson, Ariz., where she resided with her family since 1959.
Myrtle was born on June 16, 1922 in Corinth, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late George Lawrence and Lucy (Orton) Brown.
Myrtle attended Corinth High School, graduating when she was 16 years of age, in June 1939.
Myrtle's first employment was at the International Paper Mill, in Corinth, during the war when women entered the workforce. She would take the samples from the chemical vats that made the wood into pulp. She was then later employed at the Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory in Corinth, sewing shirt collars.
Myrtle married Stanton Alexander Kelley, Dec. 15, 1944. Stanton was friends with Myrtle's young brother Ralph (Bud) who introduced them. Stanton died Nov. 9 1980. They were married for 36 years.
Besides her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by four sisters, Josephine Brown, Minnie Tyre, Pearl Morris and Ethel Hickson; and three brothers Lewis, Harold, and Ralph Brown.
Myrtle is survived by her daughter Bonnie Kelley White and her husband Lawrence; son James Stanton Kelley; six grandchildren, Scott White and his wife Tresa; Angela White Marsh and her husband John; Joy Kelley Shifflette and her husband Sean; Heather Kelley Barr and her husband Jacob; Jeffery White; Brian Kelley and his wife Emily, 14 great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Alexander, Austin, Ryan, Kaylie, Natassja, Tyler, Jocelyn, Carl, Logan, Alyssa, Jacob, Cameron and Mischa.
Myrtle was laid to rest with a private family ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery.
